Suspected militant leader killed
Srinagar:
A suspected leader of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen outfit and his close associate were killed and an Army officer injured in separate gunfights in Kupwara district.
Abu Shaheen alias Shaheen Afghani, believed to be the self-styled chief commander of the outfit and his associate Tahir Saqib were killed in a gunfight with security forces at Demnar Top forests in the district, SSP, Kupwara, V. Kumar said.
He said the encounter took place when 2 Para regiment of the Army and local police laid an ambush in the area following information about presence of militants.
The militants were caught in the ambush and were asked to surrender. Instead of surrendering they resorted to firing which was retaliated, the police officer said. - PTI
