Budget session advanced by two days

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The budget session of the State legislature has been advanced to March 14 from March 16.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M.P. Prakash told presspersons on Wednesday that a decision had been taken to advance the session by two days to facilitate election to the post of Chairman of the Legislative Council.

The suspension of Congress members of the Council would be revoked on March 14, he said.

Congress MLCs were suspended for disrupting the proceedings of the House in the last session. The Congress MLCs staged walkouts during the session demanding election to the post of Chairman.

Mr. Prakash said acting Chairman of the Legislative Council N. Thippanna would read out a message sent by Governor to the Council on March 14. The Governor in his message on February 20 had called upon the MLCs to choose the Chairman at the earliest so as to fulfil the mandatory Constitutional provisions.
