Letters to the Editor
The articles "Women drive Russia's economic revival" and "Tackling war crimes against women" (March 8) made happy and sad reading. Be it economic slowdown or organised genocide, it is women who bear the brunt and, not surprisingly, it is they who recover quickly to take charge. While it is laudable that at last the prevention of domestic violence bill has been tabled in Parliament, it is time women were represented in larger numbers in Parliament and State legislatures. The IT and ITES industry should be singled out for appreciation on the occasion of International Women's Day for bringing about a remarkable turnaround in the fortunes of many a working woman.
N. Sivaraman,
* * * The Indian woman has made a difference to her country. Be it in politics, entertainment, arts, literature, sports or business, women's contribution has been immense. They have changed the culture and environment of the organisations they work in. When women acquire economic power, they contribute directly to children's health and education.
