Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Consumer Cause (CCC) has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) to direct the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to communicate its important orders to the public rather than keeping them in dark. In a memorandum to the TNERC and TNEB, the secretary of CCC, K. Kathirmathiyon, pointed out that on a batch of writ petitions filed before it, the Madras High Court in its order on August 23, 2006 issued directions to the board laying down certain conditions on provision of new power connections to special buildings and multi-storied buildings. Complying with the directions of the High Court, the board had issued instructions to its subordinates on November 22, 2006 regarding the conditions for provision of power connections to newly constructed special building and multi-storied buildings. The condition was that hereafter power connections to those buildings could be provided only if the application was submitted along with the planning permit and compliance certificate issued by competent authority. As per the existing provisions, only the Director of Town & Country Planning, Chennai for any Special Buildings and Multi-storied buildings, could approve the plan. The CCC said out that such an important instruction/circular was not informed to the public by the board.
