ON DISPLAY: Acrylic on canvas by Park Mi Won.
The multi-faceted artistic talent of students of College of Art will be in full display for people from all walks of life -- including those working in visual art, graphic design and advertising -- during the 54th Annual Art Exhibition of the college that opens here on Friday and would run up to March 17. Opening avenues for budding artists, the exhibition will put on display over 1,500 works by the students of Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) and Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) at the college premises on Tilak Marg. College of Art principal Vijaymohan says this year's annual art exhibition of the college is different from the preceding years since it is more creative, innovative and full of new and fresh ideas. The special feature of the exhibition will be the use of glass for making sculptures. To express their artistic impressions, students of painting have used various new surfaces like newspaper, stuffed forms, paper cut-out and rice paper to produce works of art. These media have been added to the already existing media such as stone, metal, terracotta, fibreglass, oil and acrylic on canvas, watercolour and pastel and ink. Besides including paintings in oil, water colour and mixed media, the exhibition showcases drawings, posters, photographs and sculptures, besides prints in etching, lithography, silk-screen, mosaic and weaving. Over a span of 65 years of its existence, the College of Art has nurtured many great teachers, artists and thinkers who have had the passion and vision to work for the development in their specialised field. -- Madhur Tankha
