Kerala House in Chennai promised

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has reportedly assured a delegation of the Marunadan Malayali Assembly that the Government will construct a Kerala House which will function as a cultural tourism centre on the 55 cents of land belonging to Kerala in Chennai.

Augustin Vanchimala, leader of the delegation which submitted a memorandum to the Minister and held talks with him recently, said Mr. Balakrishnan promised that there would be no three star hotel in the Kerala House. On the contrary, it would function as a centre useful to Malayalis the world over, especially the common man and the poor.

He lauded the organisation for campaigning against the move to make over the land to two organisations during the previous Government's period.

The organisation withdrew the jatha and satyagraha proposed to be organised by it on March 18 against the reported move to construct a star hotel in the plot in the light of the Minister's assurance.

The other members of the delegation were M.S. Sivakumar, N. Vijayakumar, Mohan Davuttan, S. Sivan, Rajan Kalady, Ayyappan Kariat, S. Promod Eramala and M. Jamaluddin.
