THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stern action would be taken against the schoolteacher accused of sexual harassment of 12 schoolchildren in Nadapuram in Kozhikode district, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan assured the Assembly on Thursday. Opposing an adjournment motion sought to be moved by K. Babu and others of the UDF, Mr. Balakrishnan termed the alleged actions of the teacher a disgrace to the teaching community and said steps would be taken to ensure that he is suspended from service. The Government, he said, had taken the issue seriously and registered a case immediately on receiving the complaint. Mr. Babu said the teacher in question had indulged in sexual misbehaviour unheard of in the State. The police, he alleged, did not even care to register a case when the matter was brought to its notice on February 28. The accused A.K. Haridas, 38, was arrested on Wednesday. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy welcomed the steps taken by the Government.
