SAIL, Power Grid lead SCOPE awards

NEW DELHI: While steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) was conferred the Gold Trophy in the institutional category, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) bagged the "MoU Excellence Award'' in the individual category of the "SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to the Public Sector Management'' for 2005-06.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the awards at a function held at the Parliament Library Building here on Thursday.

Indian Oil Corporation was also conferred the award in the Institutional category.On behalf of IOCL, chairman, Sarthak Behuria received the award.

He also received a special award for his outstanding contribution as chairman SCOPE.

For SAIL, its chairman S. K. Roongta received the award. Its chairman-cum-managing director R. P. Singh received the award for PGCIL. The other awardees include Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD NBCC, (silver trophy) in the special institutional turnaround category.

Bharat Electrical Limited and RITES bagged the medium PSE category and smaller PSE category awards. Proshanto Banerjee, former CMD of Gas Authority of India Limited, received the SCOPE Excellence Award 2004-05 in individual category.

Five PSEs received MOU award for two consecutive years (2004-05 and 2005-06). These include Container Corporation of India, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, NTPC Limited, NBCC and PGCIL.

Ashok K. Puri, CMD, Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), R. Kashyap, MD, Indian Railway Finance Corporation, Malay Sengupta, CMD, MSTC, A.K. Lakhina, CMD, REC, and Arvind Pandalai, CMD, STC, received the MoU Excellence Awards on behalf of their organisations.
