World Kidney Day celebrated

The organ donors, recipients participate in a get-together

Puducherry : The Department of Health celebrated the World Kidney Day in a novel manner. A get-together was organised on the premises of the official residence of Health Minister E. Valsaraj here on Thursday, where four donors as well as recipients of kidneys were invited for a get-together. The four patients had undergone the renal transplantation surgery recently at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital.

They were the first patients operated under new surgical facilities of the hospital. The Health Minister later told newsmen that the renal transplantation was done free of cost. Patients are providedfree drugs during convalescence.

After complying with the statutory formalities for the organ transplant, verification of tissue matching, adaptation of the donor organ and other procedures were followed. Senior Health Department officials also participated.
