NEW DELHI: A minor fire broke out at Ansal Bhawan here on Thursday. While nobody was injured in the incident, work in offices including that of The Hindu was disrupted with the power supply being cut-off as a precautionary measure. Initial investigations indicated that the fire started from a fax machine kept in an office on the ground floor at around 2:30 p.m. Subsequently, the building, which houses several corporate offices, was evacuated. Five fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was completely doused in about 30 minutes. As one of the main electric junction boxes got burnt in the blaze, a thorough check up of the circuits was undertaken in order to prevent any further short-circuit. People were allowed to enter after a couple of hours. The technical staff of the building, however, continued checking the electrical circuits till late in the evening. An official of the New Delhi Municipal Council's electricity department said the power supply would be resumed once the checking was over. With no power supply, many offices were either forced to shut shop earlier than usual or carry on with skeletal staff. . With power supply set to resume only after office hours, work was likely to be normalised only on Friday.
