VIZIANAGARAM: "The nation is heading the world in Tuberculosis and Indian Medical Association is working towards controlling it," said L.V.Raghava Rao, State IMA president. At a press conference here on Thursday, Dr. Raghava Rao said "private and public mix" were working towards controlling it under the revised national TB control programme. As 80 per cent of doctors were not willing to serve in rural areas for various reasons, the IMA had launched "Aao Gaon Chale" programme. It would under the programme adopt a village and mould it as a model health one, he said.
Anaemia
Keeping the simple problem - anaemia - that is rampant among rural folk in view, the IMA started "anaemia -free India", because, according to a survey conducted by it 60 per cent of women and 50 per cent of men were anaemic, he said. Dr. Raghava Rao said that the IMA was taking active part in controlling AIDS and also in maternity child welfare schemes. The aim of IMA was to extend quality medical care to people and also assist government in its welfare programmes. The State IMA vice-president V.S. Prasad and others were present.
