Big boost for woman, child welfare budget

More protection officers in districts likely: Rajyalakshmi Hike in incentive for persons marrying physically challenged
HYDERABAD:
Minister for Women and Child Welfare N. Rajyalakshmi has said that the Government has increased the allocation for the department by Rs. 483 crores in three years.
Replying to debate on woman and child welfare in the Assembly on Thursday, Ms. Rajyalakshmi said that the Government was implementing several measures for the development and welfare of women. The budgetary allocation was Rs. 560.36 crores in 2004-05 while it had been enhanced to Rs. 1,043 crores in 2007-08. The Government was contemplating appointing more protection officers in districts for effective implementation of the Domestic Violence against Women Act. Referring to the issues raised by BJP member G. Kishan Reddy, the Minister said that the handicapped welfare office would be shifted from the sixth floor of the office building to the ground floor keeping in view the difficulty of specially-abled persons in reaching the office.
Ms. Rajyalakshmi said that the Government was considering the enhancement of incentive to those who married physically challenged persons.
