State to rein in traffickers

Special Correspondent

K. Jana Reddy

HYDERABAD: Home Minister K. Jana Reddy promised in the Assembly on Thursday to convene a meeting of floor leaders to discuss ways of taking stringent action against traffickers.

He told Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM) that exclusive anti-human trafficking units (AHTUs) were formed to arrest traffickers and that the police were conducting operations to trace agents of brothels in the State and elsewhere.

Admitting that a number of girls belonging to the State were rescued from brothels in other States, he said the Government was concerned. The number of cases of missing girls/women reported in the State and the city in the last three years had been 6,256 and 3,066 respectively.

Of them, 5,031(State) and 2,486 (city) cases were solved. As many as 274 were arrested and 296 victims were rescued in the last two months.

Earlier, Mr. Owaisi alleged that 45 per cent of the 20,000 women sold to brothels annually were from the State. He called for stringent punishment to traffickers and more rehabilitation centres.

More CNG stations

Civil Supplies Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy told K. Prathap Reddy (TRS) that 24 more autorickshaw LPG dispensing stations and another eight CNG stations would be set up in a month or two.

They would be started at Rashtrapathi Road and Saroornagar (Hyderabad), Krishna district would get three and Suryapet, Kakinada and Rajahmundry would have one each.

FPS allotment

Answering the main question, he said the minimum age for allotment of fair price shop was 18 years and the maximum was 40.

There was no age limit for termination. The question of increasing commission for FPS dealers was under examination, he said to another query.

Endowments Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy replied in the affirmative to a question whether it had been brought to the Government's notice that certain activities being carried out at Tirumala were causing harm to the sanctity of the temple and affecting the sentiments of devotees.

He said no decision taken by the TTD Board had been cancelled by the Government.
