GULBARGA: Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Shivaraj Patil will inaugurate a two-day Sri Mapallanna Kharge Memorial National Moot Court Competition at Sidhartha Law College here on Saturday. Principal of the college Matapathi said here on Thursday that already 25 law colleges from different parts of the country had confirmed they would be participating in the competition and five more law colleges were expected to register. He said that at the competition, the participating law students would have to present their skills at arguing different cases at a mock court. The judges for the competition would preside over all the mock trials. Anant Chinchure, a lecturer at the Sidhartha Law College, said that the mock courtroom that would be set up for the competition would seek to portray an actual court so as to give the participating students a chance to try their skills out in real-to-life situations. The idea behind the competition was to help students of law hone their skills of analytical reasoning, legal aptitude and team-building, he said. Mr. Chinchure said that the participating students would also learn about various aspects of case presentation, including how to jot down significant points of the case, the use of legal language while drafting documents, the need for excellent communication skills so as to present each case with confidence, and the need to inculcate the habit of researching case laws and other material that would support each case.
