Protest against attack on TV channel's office

UNITED AGITATION: Members of political parties and social organisations staging a `rasta roko' in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on Thursday.

GULBARGA: Members of political parties and student and social organisations joined hands on Thursday to stage a demonstration here against the alleged attack on Wednesday on journalists of a private TV channel and on their office in Bangalore.

`Rasta roko'

Leaders and workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, the Janata Dal (Secular), the Janata Dal (United), the All India Students Federation (AISF), the Students Federation of India (SFI), the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS), the District Veerashaiva Noukarara Kalyana Sangha (DVNKS), the Mallikarjuna Kharge Abhimanigala Sangha, the D.K. Shivakumar Abhimanigala Sangha and different pro-Kannada organisations staged a "rasta roko" for more than an hour in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Memoranda

They shouted slogans against the persons who had attacked the office of the TV channel, and submitted individual memoranda to the Deputy Commissioner.

State vice-president of the JD(U) Basavaraj Ingin, district BJP president Amarnath Patil, district working president of the JD(U) Raju Kulageri, CPI(M) District Secretary Shoukat Ali Alur, SFI Secretary Sunil Manpade, BJP leaders Narahari Patil and Vidyasagar Kulkarni and DSS District Convener Suresh Hadimani were prominent among those who participated in the agitation.
