BANGALORE: The Congress has urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to take cognisance of the recent remarks made by the Karnataka High Court on the delay by the State government in holding the urban local bodies elections. The party has appealed to the Governor to initiate suitable action against the Government. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Congress spokesperson V.S. Ugrappa and general secretary Prakash Rathod said the Janata Dal (S)-BJP Government had been pulled up by the Supreme Court also in different cases for violating constitutional provisions. This had not only shown the Government in poor light, but had also proved that it was not particular about following constitutional norms, they alleged. Describing the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, as the "adviser" of the Government, they urged him to make known his stand on the observations of the judiciary, especially the High Court, against the Government. The Congress leaders also alleged that U.L. Bhat, the judicial inquiry panel looking into the allegations of mining irregularities, had resigned due to non cooperation from the State Government and urged the Governor to take cognisance of this episode also.
Protest
The Bangalore City Youth Congress wing is holding a protest in Bangalore on Friday demanding a CBI probe into the mining scam.
