DINDIGUL: Efforts are on to offer six-month technical diploma certificate courses to students of arts colleges to make them employable. Special Council for Higher Education will formulate the syllabus for the courses, said the Minister for Higher Education, K. Ponmudi. Speaking to presspersons at Kodaikanal on Thursday, he said technical and communication skills were essential to get jobs. The council would also explore the scope of interaction with industry, encourage innovation in curriculum development and restructure and update syllabi of universities and autonomous colleges. Ruling out the possibility of starting a Government college or polytechnic on the hill station, he said the Government was willing to extend all assistance and guidance if private institutions came forward to start a college or technical institute in Kodaikanal. "We would not hesitate to encourage such proposals," he said. "Change in higher education syllabus is a must to introduce the latest developments in the field of science and technology," the Minister stated. The main objective of implementing various welfare schemes was to increase literacy levels. Education to women would certainly reduce violence against them.
Appointment of teachers
Appointment of teachers in higher institutions would commence only after clearing the pending cases in courts, Mr. Ponmudi said. Women must take up teaching profession with a vision and mission as their role was vital for educational institutions, he said.
