CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday announced a bonanza of incentives for women including a monthly pension of Rs. 500 to those who were 45 years of age and had two daughters, setting up of `mahila chaupals' in each village and priority in employment. Speaking at a function in Panchkula where he honoured 127 outstanding women of Haryana, Mr.Hooda said that although his regime had implemented many schemes to raise the socio economic status of women still lot more needed to be done. Mr.Hooda also expressed serious concern over the issue of female foeticide and emphasized that a mass movement be launched to check this menace. It was heartening that the sex ratio had increased in the last two years thanks to various schemes geared towards empowerment of women and the girl child. Haryana Social Welfare Minister Kartar Devi said that the Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique Act was being implemented strictly and one doctor and a midwife had even been sentenced by a Court. Commissioner and Special Secretary, Women and Child Development Anuradha Gupta said that by deciding to honour outstanding women on International Women's Day, the State Government had made this day more meaningful.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly- constructed building of the office of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission and laid the foundation stone of office building of Haryana Agro Industries Corporation Limited in Panchkula.
