BHOPAL: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) to follow directions issued by the High Court and permit the Final-year LLB students to submit the applications for the Civil Judges Examination. The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday issued an order allowing the LLB final year students to apply for the preliminary examination for filling 240 posts of Civil Judges. This order was issued by a Division bench comprising of Chief Justice, A.K.Patnaik and Justice Sanjay Yadav. The last date for filling the forms was March 1 and the final year LLB students were debarred from taking the Civil Judges examination as the MPPSC had put the condition that only those who had obtained the qualifying degree were eligible to apply for this examination. According to information received here, the intervention filed by Archana Raghuvanshi, a final year LLB student at National Law Institute University here, came up for hearing before the Division Bench of Supreme Court comprising of Justice CK Thakker and Justice VS Sirpurkar. The State sought extension for completing various stages of examination processes. Supporting the prayer of the State, Mr. Vivek Tankha Senior Advocate, Supreme Court stated before the Court that the applicants were not averse to the extension of the whole programme if the condition of filing the degrees on the date of application for the Civil Judges Examination was relaxed. He also informed the Court that the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, in a similar petition filed by different students, has permitted such category of students to take the examination. Mr. Tankha urged the Apex Court to pass directions after taking into consideration the directions passed by the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Mr. Siddharth Gupta, Advocate who was also appearing for the Law students told Hindu that the Supreme Court, after giving a patient hearing to averments of both the parties, directed the MPPSC to comply with directions issued by the High Court and permit the Final-year LLB students to submit their application forms.
