Akali Dal demands rehabilitation of 1984 riot victims

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Pointing out that the victims of the 1984 riots are yet to receive the compensation promised to them by the Government, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Delhi State has written to Union Home Minister to expedite the sanction of rehabilitation package.

In a letter to the Minister, office bearers of SAD ( Badal) have mentioned that ex-gratia has not been given to the next of kin of those killed and the injured, as well as to those who had suffered loss of property.

"There is no national survey for the victims who had been ruthlessly killed by the mob. The children and the family members of the victims of riots have not been rehabilitated in the forces under the Central Government nor has there been any special recruitment," the letter said.

The SAD has also claimed that old age pension scheme for widows and senior citizens whose children were killed in the riots have not been provided and no efforts have been made to provide assistance to persons disabled during the riots.
