CUTTACK: Truckers of the city have threatened not to transport goods from the railway shed from March 12 in protest against what they called the indifferent attitude of railway authorities. "The boycott will continue indefinitely," say office-bearers of a joint coordination committee of the Orissa Truck Owners' Association and Cuttack Truck Owners' Association. Nearly 500 trucks carry goods like food grains and edible oil from the shed to different parts of the State daily.
Basic amenities
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, the truck owners alleged that the railway authorities were harassing them and not paying any heed to their demands for better facilities at the goods shed. "The railway goods shed is in a precarious state and the approach road is in a bad shape," said convener of the committee Sarat Chandra Pradhan. The truckers further alleged that the RPF personnel harass drivers and helpers by implicating them in false cases when they refuse to pay subscriptions to the personnel. Although the district administration, the local railway authorities, including the railway police, were informed about the alleged highhandedness of RPF personnel, nobody had come to our rescue, Mr. Satapathy said. "With no alternative, we have decided to boycott carrying railway goods henceforth," he added.
