KARIMNAGAR: In charge Joint Collector and DRDA Project Director T. Chiranjeevulu has stressed the need for educating of the womenfolk to check the ever increasing crime against women in the State in general and Karimnagar district in particular. Participating in the International Women's Day celebrations on Thursday here at Film Bhavan, he said that the Karimnagar district topped in the crime against women. He said that the Government had launched the Indira Kranthi Patham to eradicate poverty among womenfolk through their economic empowerment. District Legal Services Authority secretary Guruappa Naidu expressed concern over displacement of women and her children due to various cases in courts.
Noble gesture
Women and Child Welfare Project Director M. Surya Kumari and woman police station SI Madhavi and others were also present. In a noble gesture, woman employees of LIC of India Sircilla branch donated three sewing machines to the poorest of the poor families of Sircilla town identified by the RDO on the occasion. LIC employees Devaki Rani, Aparna, Bharathi, Leelamani and Pushpalatha contributed the amount for sewing machines. The woman employees also donated one quintal of rice to an orphan family and half-quintal rice to a girl's family, who had undergone heart surgery and also provided financial assistance for her treatment. Besides, they had also distributed fruits to donors at a blood donation camp conducted by the Lions Club in Sircilla. They also distributed fruits and bread to inmates of Sircilla area hospital.
Women better off
Adilabad Staff Reporter writes: Adilabad First Additional Sessions Judge D. Minni Dhanalakshmi on Thursday said women were better off in society at present because of specific laws made for them. She said women were entering hitherto uncharted territories instead of remaining in the kitchen.
Exhibition
The judge was the chief guest at an official at Gandhi Park here wherein a photo exhibition by the departments concerned with women's welfare organised stalls depicting the Government's efforts in the direction. Cultural troupes sang songs glorifying Indian women. District Collector R. Subba Rao, District Revenue Officer B. Bharathi Lakhpathi Naik and others attended.
