Rotarians donate carts, clothes irons

CHENNAI : Some 50 families who iron clothes for a living were given mobile carts and brass clothes irons by Rotary International District 3230 on Wednesday.

The club donated equipment worth Rs.6.5 lakh.

Participating in the function, Minister for Social Welfare Poongothai said that the club's initiative would improve the lives of the people who depended on the equipment to earn their daily income.

J.B. Kamdar, district governor of the club, said that the carts, designed by architect W. Anand and a Rotarian, were distributed to beneficiaries across the city. Each cart costs about Rs. 13,000.

Rotary plans to donate more carts in future. Rotary International Director, Antony de Dalmas, hailed the novel project adopted by the club.
