Move to reinstate Corporation official resented

Residents welfare associations normally do not give their opinions about appointment of civic officials. But residents welfare associations in Velachery are disappointed at the decision of the Chennai Corporation to reappoint an official at a local unit office.

The Federation of Velachery Welfare Associations has written to the Corporation Commissioner complimenting the present set of officials on their cooperation with members of the residents' associations in re-laying a number of roads. The transfer of officials was the prerogative of the civic agency, it said but wanted the Commissioner to post officials and staff who understand the demands of the people and cooperate with them.

The present set of officials need not be disturbed, they pleaded. Another association has written to the Commissioner against the re-appointment of an official in the area.
