Coimbatore: A group of people belonging to a particular community staged an agitation at the Sungam maidan at Ondipudur area on Thursday demanding withdrawal of cases against six persons arrested on charges of causing the death of Dhandapani (20) in a group clash that took place on Saturday. According to police, Dhandapani reportedly sustained injuries in a group clash that took place in a temple festival annadanam over the issue of a particular community member dining with the other community. Dhandapani got admitted to the hospital on Saturday claiming that he sustained injuries when he fell off a cycle. He died at the CMC Hospital on Sunday resulting in tense moments at Ondipudur area. Meanwhile, people belonging to the other group staged an agitation demanding action against the leaders of the outfit of the other community for instigating trouble.
Parents block road
Irate parents staged a road-roko demanding action against a teacher at the Idigarai Government School near Thadagam on Thursday on charges of having beaten two students with a bamboo cane for not obeying her directions. The parents demanded action against the teacher Sagunthala for beating up two Standard IX students Ravikumar and Thangavel on Wednesday. After assurances that stern action was being initiated, they withdrew their agitation.
Gutted
Two plastic godowns and five houses at MS Nagar near Kurichi Junction were gutted in a major fire that broke out late on Wednesday night.
Man held
Peer Mohammed (28) of Ukkadam area was arrested on Thursday on charges of sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl studying in a school in Goods Shed Road area. The accused using his acquaintance with the girl's father is said to have taken the girl home and abused her sexually.
