Three alleged robbers held

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Three persons allegedly involved in a robbery at Sarojini Nagar in South-West Delhi on February 13 have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police.

Vijay Kumar Aggarwal, an assistant general manager with a private firm, was approached by four persons -- one of whom was wearing a police uniform -- at his I-Block Sarojini Nagar house on the pretext of verification. But as soon as an unsuspecting Mr. Aggarwal allowed them in, the culprits had whipped out country-made firearms and robbed the occupants of Rs. 5 lakhs in cash, jewellery worth lakhs, an expensive Rado watch and a mobile phone.

Following investigations, the police arrested Rajesh Kushwah, who worked as a field boy in the office of Mr. Aggarwal. Thereafter, at his instance, two of his accomplices, Uma Shanker and Sunil Kumar Gupta, were also arrested.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that Rajesh had tipped-off Uma Shanker, who had a criminal background, about the availability of cash in the house of Mr. Aggarwal. Uma contacted Sunil, who worked in the gang led by notorious Sudhir Chauhan of Uttar Pradesh. As per plan, Sunil bought a police uniform from Lajpat Rai Market in Chandni Chowk and wore it on the day of the incident.

The accused also allegedly told the police that they had stolen a Maruti Alto from neighbouring Noida and had used it in the crime.

Further interrogation of the accused revealed that they were also involved in committing burglary in the house of Kanti Singh, Member of Parliament, in Sector-56 Noida on February 9.

Gang leader Sudhir and his accomplices had also shot dead jail warden in Muzzaffarnagar in February, the police said.
