IT hub to get sewage treatment plants

Special Correspondent

Project involves HMWSSB, APIIC, HUDA and the civic body

  • APIIC, civic body release 10 crores and 1 crore respectively
  • Overall capacity of the plants to be 57 Million Litres Per Day

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which is grounding a modern underground sewerage system plan for the Information Technology hub of Hi-Tec city and Madhapur areas in Serilingampally Municipality, has decided to build a series of sewage treatment plants too there.

The overall capacity of the treatment plants would be to the tune of 57 Million Litres Per Day (MLD). These would come up at Miyapur (30 MLD), Gachibowli (7 MLD), Kondapur (6 MLD), Beverly Hills catchment area (5 MLD) and Gopanapally and Nanakramguda (4.5 MLD each), according to HMWSSB officials.

The water board is carrying out the project along with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and Serilingampally Municipality.

For the first phase works, APIIC reportedly released Rs. 10 crores and Serilingampally Municipality Rs. 1 crore.

    In a limbo

The proposal to lay sewerage lines in the area was in a limbo for two full years with the players involved — APIIC, HUDA, Serilingampally Municipality and HMWSSB — at loggerheads given the huge funds required for key infrastructure improvements in setting up sewerage network.

The works include laying of RCC pipes of 350mm diameter to 600 mm diameter over a distance of 2.6 km from L&T Infocity to the sewerage treatment plant under construction at Durgam Cheruvu; 300 mm diameter to 450 mm diameter pipes from HITEX Convention Centre to Khanamet, National Academy of Construction and from there to Thummidikunta and Madhapaur, a distance of 2.7 km.

Similarly, pipes of 300 mm diameter and 350 mm diameter would be laid along the 1.1 km stretch from Kavuri Hills to Madhapur and 1.65 km long Kondapur-HITEX Convention Centre stretch.

Another pipeline of 250 mm diameter to 400 mm diameter would be laid from Whitefields to National Academy of Construction junction, a distance of 1.75 km.
