Mary resents police `apathy'

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: State Women's Commission Chairperson Mary Ravindranath has asked the top brass of the police to sensitise officials at the lower level as "they are not taking crime cases against women seriously."

Though the higher-ups in the department were all women-friendly, lower rung officials were not responding to the complaints lodged by women, she observed. Several women and girl children had gone missing in the past few months but the police were unable to trace them, she said. Whenever women approached them for lodging complaints, they were being belittled, she said.
