BANGALORE: Burglars on Wednesday night murdered an employee of the Kengeri post office who resisted their attempt to loot the post office. The police said the burglars had tied the hands and legs of Nagaraj (48), a bachelor, and smothered him to death at the outhouse on the post office premises. Mr. Nagaraj was living alone in the outhouse on the post office compound situated in Kengeri in Satellite Town, off Ring Road. After killing Mr. Nagaraj, the thieves broke into the post office and attempted to break the cash chest. Although they had opened a few trunks containing petty cash and postal material, nothing was stolen, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra told The Hindu . "We suspect a gang that has been targeting post offices in Bangalore Rural district might be involved in the incident," he said. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal B. Hosur along with Mr. Sharathchandra visited the scene of crime. A native of Tiptur in Tumkur district, Mr. Nagaraj had lost his parents at a young age. He was brought up by a swamiji in Kengeri. For the past 12 years, he was working as a temporary employee in the Rural Mail Service section. He used to deliver mails from the Kengeri post office to a sub post office at Kumbalgodu, the police said.
