Workshop on Domestic Violence Act

KOCHI: The State Social Welfare Department and Cultural Academy for Peace will jointly hold a district-level workshop on domestic violence Act, 2005, and related Acts at Ernakulam Town Hall on Friday morning. The speakers include Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams; Managing Director of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala R. Sreelekha; Planning Board member Mridul Eapen; and K. Sukumaran, former judge, Kerala High Court.

Plea to Chief Minister

KOCHI: Representatives of the NH 17 Action Council, Cheranaloore, will meet Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to apprise him of the problems faced by people who are being pressured to surrender land for a second time, for widening of the Edapally-Mangalore section of the highway, said Shahim Chendampilly, general convener of the action council. — Staff Reporter

Flight develops snag

NEDUMBASSERY: An Air India Express flight which took off from the Cochin International Airport on Thursday afternoon was brought back after more than an hour owing to an engineering problem. The flight IX 423, operating in the Kochi- Abu Dhabi- Muscat sector left with 106 passengers at 1.15 p.m. and returned at 2.30 p.m.
