`Education helps empower women'

KOCHI:
Only women with educational qualification are able to come into the mainstream of society, said P.P. Thankachan, UDF convener.
He was speaking at a seminar organised by the District Mahila Congress (I) on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Monamma Kokkad, former member of the State Women's Commission, led the seminar on Domestic Violence. Mahila Congress district president Laly Jophine presided. District Congress Committee president V.J. Poulose welcomed the gathering. All India Mahila Congress secretary Simi Rosebel John spoke on the occasion. The meeting also honoured prominent women in the district.
Janaseva Sisubhavan organised a rally in protest against domestic violence, as a result of which many women have had to leave their home with children.
