Seminar on music begins

Kochi: Renowned musician V. Dakshinamoorthy inaugurated a seminar on music organised jointly by the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and the Kerala Fine Arts Society here on Thursday.

In his inaugural address, Dakshinamoorthy termed music as `divine'. He said that a musician needed the blessings of his teachers and parents for reaping success.

Experts in music will present papers and concerts during the four-day programme. On Thursday, students of the Department of Music at Sanskrit University presented a cultural programme.

Mridangam expert T.R. Rajamani explained the mathematics of rhythm. A Carnatic recital by Dakshinamoorthy was held in the evening.

Building inauguration

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone of the administration-cum-instructional building at the Cochin University College of Engineering at Pulinkunnu on March 18. The cost of the building is estimated at Rs.5.94 crore.
