Plea for funds for Dalits' uplift

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Ambedkar Yuva Sene has urged the State Government to set aside 23 per cent of the total budget allocation for welfare of Dalits and initiate programmes for the development of SC/STs.

A release said that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes formed 22.75 per cent of the population, and that nearly 80 per cent of them did not have houses. Though governments had been announcing the allocation of funds for uplift of Dalits they were actually releasing less than what had been announced in the budget.

It said that the Government should release special funds for development and ensure that the schemes were implemented properly.
