Letters to the Editor
The article "Pulling the plug on email" (March 8) was interesting. Email cannot be substituted easily, as indicated by the author. It has penetrated our lives. None of us wants to return to the pen and paper today despite our love for writing letters. There is no telling whether a stamped envelope will reach the addressee. Email reaches the intended destination instantly and brings back instant replies. Many lost friends have been found thanks to the Internet and email. The problem of killing 200 bits of spam a day with a single click of the mouse should not make us despair.

* * * It seems technology has come a full circle. Emails are indeed a poor compensation for handwritten letters. The only silver lining is the speed with which they communicate. There is certainly a human touch to letters sent and received by post.
