Companies beckon as academic year nears completion

  • Capital I.Q. selects 30 students
  • All students of MTTM secure jobs

GUNTUR: With the academic year nearing an end, Acharya Nagarjuna University and other college campuses are abuzz with placement fever as leading firms are on a recruiting spree.

Capital I.Q., a division of Standard & Poor's (S&P), the world's foremost provider of independent credit ratings, indices, risk valuation and investment research, selected 30 students at a campus interview held on Thursday on the university campus.

The selected candidates were short-listed from over 500 final year MBA and M.Com students from various colleges affiliated to the university who had appeared for the interviews.

    Entry-level jobs

The interviews were held for entry-level jobs in Capital I.Q., a data and information wing of the S&P providing high-impact information and solutions to leading financial institutions.

"We were looking for candidates with functional knowledge in financial accounting and good communication skills," director, Estimates Division of Capital I.Q. Chakravarthy said.

The job involves collection and processing of data of various firms from the annual company reports and grade them based on their performance. The firm has clients from companies in United States, Europe and Asia Pacific.

    Stringent process

The recruitment process was stringent keeping in tune with the profile of the organisation. A written test was held in the third week of February, followed by a test of logical reasoning. Two rounds of technical tests were held to assess the competence of the students. "Students who were proficient in financial packages and accounting were able to get through the preliminary round. They would be tested in communication skills in the final round," he said. Selected candidates would be given on-hand job training for three months before being absorbed into the company, he said.

It was not just limited to one firm. Career Guidance and Placement Cell director G. Prasad said major firms like Zenpact, ICICI Prudential and ITC evinced a keen interest in recruiting graduates on the campuses. All the 24 final year post-graduate students of the Master of Tourism and Travel Management (MTTM) secured placements in New Delhi-based Southern Travels and Rao Travels.
