  • No registration, entry fee for student participants
  • 12 companies from various sectors are taking part

TAMBARAM: `Whiz 07', a two-day free job fair for students of engineering, arts and science and those pursuing diploma courses, will be held at Dhaanish Ahmed College of Engineering at Padappai near Tambaram on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is being organised for the first time and the college planned to make it an annual event, K. Moosa, college chairman, told reporters on Tuesday.

    Visiting companies

Twelve companies from the IT and ITES, BPO, finance, banking, telecommunication and insurance sectors among others will take part. No registration fee or entry fee will be charged for student participants. Invitations had been sent to 240 colleges in and around Chennai and neighbouring districts and so far 4,000 students had registered for the job fair, Mr. Moosa said.

Openings were not restricted only to students with a background in computer science engineering or Information Technology as graduates and diploma holders from non-engineering backgrounds could also register and attend the job fair.

The first batch of 82 students passed out from the college last year and 52 of them were placed through campus recruitment, said K. Younus Malkhan, placement officer.

On efforts taken to improve communication and soft skills among students of the college, especially amidst growing concerns that students from Chennai region were found unemployable due to the lack of those qualities, Mr. Moosa said they started giving specialised training from the first year onwards.
