KHAMMAM: Adulterated toddy claimed the lives of five persons, including two children, in Timmirigudem village of Charla mandal on Friday. The condition of one person, admitted in the Bhadrachalam hospital, is said to be serious. The victims belonged to three tribal families. Fresh toddy is part of the dietary habits of the tribal community in the area. But it is still a mystery how the toddy turned into poison. Toddy pilferage was a common problem in the village during summer. The toddy collected on the day was adulterated with chemicals allegedly to take revenge on those indulging in pilferage. The police reached the village and began the investigation.
