KOCHI: Kochi will have a new school for aspiring IT professionals. An IT finishing school will be inaugurated on the premises of the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium at Kaloor on Saturday. The school is being set up by Harin Technologies Private Limited, a Bangalore-based company, in association with the Kerala State IT Mission. The school curriculum is primarily aimed at filling the gaps in the formal education system. A student who passes out of the engineering college may not be equipped with the necessary skills required for being absorbed by IT companies. The school will analyse the student's aptitude and provide a short-term course to improve the capabilities, including communication skills. About 2,500 students have already been given training at the company's schools in Bangalore and Chennai, said S.Sreekumar, managing director of the company. The school offers training and placement for systems and network engineers, database administrators and software professionals. The school can provide training for any graduate who is not able to get through corporate interviews, said C. Janardanan, Chairman of the company. The courses are of two to three months' duration. Only 15 to 20 candidates will be selected for each programme. The programme is designed to sharpen communication, presentation, logical thinking and troubleshooting skills. It is structured with the inputs from various IT organisations, according to Mr. Sreekumar. The huge demand for IT professionals augurs well for setting up more schools, according to him. The company has entered into an agreement with Beijing University to start an IT finishing school in Beijing. It has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Government for imparting training in IT for employees in banking and other technology oriented fields.
