Banking Ombudsman to hold meeting
BANGALORE:
The Banking Ombudsman will hold customers' meet in Gulbarga and Bidar on March 12 and 13 respectively during his State tour. In Gulbarga, the customers' meet will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Good Luck Hotel, SP Temple Road, opposite St. Joseph's Convent on March 12; while in Bidar the meet will be held at Saharda, Naubad from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on March 13. Compensation sought

MLA N.L. Narendra Babu has appealed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to institute an inquiry into the death of seven persons following food poisoning in Goraguntepalya in February. `Reduce interest'
BANGALORE:
The Farmers' Federation of India has demanded that instead of waiving the cooperative loans of farmers, the State Government should reduce interest rate on the entire agricultural loans of all banks, including commercial banks. Federation general secretary C. Narasimhappa told presspersons here on Friday that the interest rate should be reduced to 4 per cent. Staff Correspondent
`Salaries not paid'
Bangalore:
The State Government's announcement on waiver of farm loans had brought transactions in cooperative societies and banks to a standstill. This had resulted in the employees not being paid even their salaries in the last three months, office-bearers of the Karnataka State PACS-Bank Welfare and Employees Federation have said in a letter to Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. They have appealed to him to set aside Rs. 5 crore in the budget to pay the salaries. Special Correspondent
Minor `raped'
MANGALORE:
Panambur police have registered a case against a person for allegedly raping his seven-year-old niece. According to a complaint lodged by the mother of the victim, a resident of Sand Pits, Bengre here, with the police on Friday, the accused, Purushottam, lured the child to his house on the pretext of giving her money to buy ice-cream and raped her. The incident came to light when the victim complained to her mother of pain when she was being given a bath. The victim on being questioned narrated the tale to her mother; the police said. A case under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code has been registered. Staff Correspondent

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka here has announced that admission for the Master of Computer Applications post graduation programme is open for 2007-08. According to registrar A.H. Kingfisher Airlines on Friday announced a mega offer to lure passengers who fly frequently the Kingfisher Airlines Mega Mile Move (MMM) Offer. The offer aimed at attracting passengers who fly frequently by other airlines, with the incentive of providing them with an opportunity to move their miles from their FFP to Kingfisher Airlines' King Club. The passengers have to produce a statement from their FFP and upon enrolment, they would enjoy instant tier matching, a press release said. A Gold status member of any competing FFP would join straight away as a King Club Gold member. Along with the miles that the member would "move" to King Club, he would earn regular King Miles on all flights taken on Kingfisher Airlines. Procession
TUMKUR:
Members of various Kannada organisations and those of the Tumkur district Autorickshaw Owners and Drivers Association on Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to withhold the final award of the Cauvery Waters Dispute Tribunal from being published in the Gazette. They took out a procession in protest against the award from the bus stand to the Deputy Commissioner's office, where, their leaders handed over to the official, a memorandum addressed to Dr. Manmohan Singh. A large number of autorickshaws formed a part of the procession.

Film on Shiva Sharane
BIJAPUR:
Sri Danammadevi, a devotional film on 12th century Shiva Sharane, which is produced by A.S. Patil Nadahalli and directed by Chindodi Bangaresh, was released here on Friday. Director General of Police, Northwest Range, Doreswamy Naik, released the film at Jayashri cinema. Actor Jayanthi and Anu Prabhakar, who have leading roles in the film, were present. Ms. Prabhakar, who plays Danammadevi, said it was different and challenging role for her. Danammadevi temple is at Guddapur on the State border. Mr. Bangaresh and Mr. Nadahalli spoke.
