KURNOOL: The opportunities awareness fair, sponsored by the Police Department and Backaward Classes Study Circle, was a big draw on here Friday. Y. Venkatrami Reddy, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), formally inaugurated the fair and addressed the gathering.

DIG of Police K.R.M. Kishore Kumar, who was the main inspiration behind organising the mega event, Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy, Joint Collector Ramsankar Naik, Director of Study Circle Nagabhushanam and others were present.

25 stalls set up

A total of 25 institutions, majority of them software and BPO organizations, set up stalls at the three-day fair. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Reddy called upon youth to hunt for the opportunities rather than waiting for somebody to knock at their door. He said Indian manpower had earned a name for itself in the global market.

For the middle and lower levels, Indian workers proved themselves to be better than their Americans counterparts.

Private sector jobs

Dr. Reddy said the private sector was the largest provider of jobs and also paid fat pay packets. For those who could strive for excellence, private sector would the right place, he said. He wanted the youth to exploit the job market in a developing economy, which had more potential than a developed economy.

The DIG of Police said the fair was organised mainly to offer to the youth in the rural areas the feel of urban opportunities.

He said the rural youth were competitive in all respects except communication skills.

Good jobs

Improvement of communication skills would fetch them good jobs.Mr. Malla Reddy said society should take the initiative to provide jobs for youth before they got frustrated
