WORLD OF MAKE-BELIEVE: Maneka Sorcar.
Rajahmundry: For those who wish to see miracles happen, then they should definitely visit Rajahmundry soon where the act of making the historic Godavari bridge vanish would be performed by Maneka Sorcar, the daughter of internationally acclaimed magician, P.C.Sorcar Junior. Maneka who did her Master's Degree in Business Administration form Ohio University chose this profession to continue the family tradition. Speaking to this correspondent Maneka who is in town performing the acts with her father said, "I and my father are staying just opposite the bridge near Pushkara Ghat from where we can see the bridge clearly andare watching out the sunrise, sunset, smog formation timings, train traffic movement and other factors, which will help us in making the bridge vanish," said Maneka. The ninth generation of Sorcars pursuing magic, Maneka Sorcar is one of the few women magicians in the world. Herfather P.C. Sorcar Junior is her guru, mentor and guide. According to her, "magic is a performing art. It depends on the talent of the artist. From 13 `rasas', we can make n number of magics"- Maneka said. Asked about her pet item in the show, she said The Big Bang i.e., tying up nine dynamites to body and sitting in a wooden box nailed from all sides and then pouring petrol and igniting it. She said that 20 magicians have died while performing the same. Maneka has 40 items on hand to entertain them for two hours.
