Varanasi: BJP activists on Friday burnt posters and an effigy of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan here for allegedly carrying out a ``veiled campaign'' for the Samajwadi Party through advertisements beamed on TV channels ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

The activists congregated at Malviya Ghat on the bank of the Ganga and shouted slogans against Bachchan for defending the law and order situation in the State under Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
