Consumer Forum summons to Sahara India MD

Accused of defaulting of Rs.6.75 lakh

GUNTUR: District Consumer Forum President K. Mahalakshmi has ordered Sahara India Managing Worker (Managing Director) to be personally present at the Forum here in Guntur on March 16 for alleged defaulting of Rs.6.75 lakh to a complainant from Sattenapalli.

Hearing two petitions from the complainant Jinka Seshagiri on Friday the Forum president passed these orders. Seshagiri's wife Rajeswari had joined two schemes of Sahara India and died in December 2003. Under Sahara 10 Scheme Rs.10,000 had to be given by the company every month to nominee totalling Rs.12 lakh.

In the second scheme `Debt Help' company had to pay Rs.1,500 per month for six years to the nominee.

However, the nominee was supposed to repay the amount to the company within 16 years.

Two cases filed

Her husband had filed two cases in the forum saying the company had not paid any money under the Debt Help scheme.

The Forum had ruled in May 2005 that company should pay due amount with 9 per cent interest to the complainant. Sahara India sought exemption of interest in State Consumer Forum, but upheld the District Forum ruling, and National Forum also confirmed the ruling in May 2006.

In July 2006 complainant filed two penalty petitions in District Forum seeking Rs.6.75 lakh due to him and urged the Forum to take action under contempt of court. Notice was sent to company, but it did not respond even after eight months.
