PATIALA: A younger brother of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday criticised the criterion adopted by state Congress Committee for issuing show-cause notices to party leaders, including himself. In a three-page reply to a show-cause notice issued by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) to him for alleged anti-party activities, Raja Malwinder Singh said ``I fail to understand as to how a responsible organisation can take newspaper reports as the gospel of truth.'' Denying the allegations of working against Congress's Samana constituency nominee and eventual winner Brahm Mohindra, he said, ``if you choose to expel me from the party, You will release me from my sworn duty governed by my inherent sense of honour and then leave me a free spirit.'' Mr Singh wrote that some people of ``dubious repute'' had ``conspired to malign'' him. Punjab Congress president S S Dullo, when contacted, said that the notice was issued as per the instructions of the high command that in case any candidate complained against another leader, he should be served with a show-cause notice. Dullo said a committee would go into the reasons behind the Congress' defeat in Punjab. Besides Malwinder, the PPCC had issued show-cause notices to ten Punjab Congress leaders, including Bir Devinder Singh, yesterday. PTI
