NEW DELHI: Deposing before a court here on Friday in connection with the Nitish Katara murder case, former Member of Parliament D.P. Yadav's daughter Bhawna said that on the night of the incident her mobile phone was not in her possession as she had left it with her driver. Appearing before Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, Ms Bhawna in a reply to another query also told the court that she called up Nitish's mother Neelam Katara on February 17, 2002, evening as there was a missed call on her mobile phone from Ms. Katara's number. The prosecution has claimed that there were 17 calls between Ms. Bhawna's mobile phone and Ms. Katara's number since Nitish went missing on February 16 evening. The video footage of the marriage ceremony which Ms Bhawna and her sister Ms Bharti, a key prosecution witness, had attended -- and where Nitish was also present -- was also shown in the court. Both Ms. Bharti and Ms. Bhawna were seen holding mobile phones on at least two occasions. During the examination, Ms. Bhawna told the court that the mobile phone did not belong to her and that it belonged to a friend. Ms. Bhawna admitted before the court that she had given a greeting card to Nitish. Ms. Bhawna's deposition would continue on March 17, the next date of hearing. Earlier, her deposition had been postponed more than once since January. Twice she did not depose before the court citing ill health. The deposition was also postponed from February 8 to February 21 as the judge hearing the case was on leave of absence during that period. The prosecution wanted to examine Ms. Bhawna for verifying whether her sister Ms. Bharti had received calls from Ms. Katara and Nitish's friends on her (Ms. Bhawna's) mobile phone on the day Nitish went missing as well as the following day.
