CALLING CONSUMERS: A road show being organised by BSNL at Girija Chowk in Berhampur on Friday.
BERHAMPUR: The BSNL started a campaign drive in the city to woo customers for landline connections from Friday. The campaign would continue till March 31. As a part of the campaign road shows are being organised to attract customers through add up facilities that landline connections can provide. Through street-corner kiosks instant booking for landline phones is being done. During the campaign period landline connections would be provided without any deposit and registration fee. It is a move to increase landline connections as people are surrendering landlines in this age of cell phones. Greatest irony is that road show of the BSNL showcases broadband internet facility in big way as a major add up facility of landline phones but the Berhampur unit of BSNL is not in a position to provide broadband connections to most desiring customers as it has no free ports at its main exchange.
Road show
On Friday the road show passed through Girija square and Bada Bazar areas that fall under the main exchange area. The large bill board on the decorated vehicle of the road show describing benefits of broadband connection that comes with landline phones drew comments from localites that the BSNL is advertising what it cannot provide to its customers. But the officials at commercial section of the BSNL here said ample landline customers demanding broadband connections would ultimately lead to provision of broadband connections in future. But the paradox is that the BSNL authorities haven't used business acumen to have stock of free broadband ports before they started campaign to increase landline connections using broadband as a major Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
