Corporation's anti-mosquito drive gets a boost

Stalin hands over fogging machines, sprayers worth Rs. 30 lakh

CHENNAI:
Minister for Local Administration and Town Planning M.K. Stalin handed over spraying and fogging machines worth Rs. 30 lakh to the Chennai Corporation at Ripon Building here on Friday. Two hundred spraying machines worth Rs. 7 lakh and 115 fogging machines worth Rs. 23 lakh will now join the Corporation's drive against mosquitoes. The Minister said that biological agents such as bacteria and small fish were being used to destroy mosquito larvae in water channels, storm water drains and temple tanks in the city. Chennai has some 93 kilometres of water channels and around 800 kilometres of storm water drains. The Corporation has employed 810 workers in its drive against mosquitoes. Responding to questions, he said that the government would take steps to improve the quality of education offered at Corporation Schools.
Mayor M. Subramanian, Deputy Mayor R. Satyabama and Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni participated in the function, along with officials, councillors and Corporation workers.
