26 convicts in bus-burning case move High Court

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Twenty-six of the 28 persons, found guilty by a sessions court in the Dharmapuri bus burning case, have moved the Madras High Court challenging the conviction and sentence.

The appellants included C. Muniappan, who is one among the three persons who were awarded capital punishment by the First

Additional District Sessions Court in Salem. Two others — Nedunchezhiyan and Madhu alias Ravindran — are yet to appeal against the order dated February 16.

The referred trial of the three persons, who were awarded death penalty, however, reached the High Court last week for the mandatory confirmation.

The remaining 25 persons, found guilty of lesser offences and sentenced to seven-year rigorous imprisonment, too have filed appeals against the trial court order.
