HYDERABAD: The city police are inquiring whether horse trader Hasan Ali, reportedly found to be in possession of huge assets during raids by income-tax authorities in Pune, is the same Hasan Ali of Banjara Hills facing three criminal charges here. Two cases relating to the Foreign Exchange Management Act and a bank fraud were registered against one Hasan Ali, resident of Banjara Hills in the '90s. The police said they were yet to ascertain if he and the horse trader of Pune were one and the same.
Details being collected
"Neither IT officials nor any other agency has asked us to probe into details. But out of curiosity and the wide publicity given to Ali's case, we are collecting details," city Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said on Friday. Referring to reports that another criminal case was pending against Ali for throwing acid on a person, Mr. Singh said, the matter was also being probed. The horse trader had not been visiting the capital for past few years after shifting his base to Pune and foraying into real estate. He was married to Mahabooba Khan from Hyderabad. The couple used to live in a palatial building on Road No. 11 of Banjara Hills and had two children. They reportedly developed differences over some family matters and got divorced on February 25, 1999. On learning that Ali hailed from city, media persons went to his house in Banjara Hills but Ms. Khan declined to speak. Her servants said she did not want to divulge any details about him. Police sources said Ali had a lot of immovable properties in the city. Inquiries were on to collect details of his assets.
