Crime Notes: Shop, house looted

BANGALORE: Burglars struck at a shop and a house on Thursday and made away with gold ornaments and mobile phones, together worth Rs. 1.8 lakh. Police said thieves entered a mobile phone shop at a mall in Gandhinagar on Thursday night by breaking open the rolling shutters.

They stole mobile phones worth Rs. 80,000. On a complaint by the proprietor, Syed Ashraf, the Upparpet police have registered a case.

In the other burglary, thieves entered Ravishankar's house in 1st Stage, Chandra Layout, using fake keys, and looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh from an almirah. Police said the theft took place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. when Ravishankar's wife was out shopping. The Chandra Layout police have registered a case.

Two injured

Two persons were injured in separate group clashes reported from Chamarajpet and Hebbal police station limits on Thursday night.

Police said Taufiq suffered severe head injuries when two groups attacked each other with cricket bats and iron rods at Tipu Nagar on Mysore Road. He has been admitted to NIMHANS. The two groups clashed over the election of office-bearers of Tipu Welfare Association, the police said. The Chamarajpet police have registered a case.

Krishnappa, an autorickshaw driver, was injured in a clash between two groups of autorickshaw drivers on Sumangali Sevashrama Road in Hebbal. He has been admitted in a hospital, the police said.

Chain snatched

A youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 from a woman in Banashankari police station limits on Thursday. Around 1 p.m. a youth came from behind and snatched the chain from Shuba while she was walking near Devagiri Venkateshwara temple in 2nd Stage, Banashankari. The Banashankari police have registered a case.

Arrested

The Hebbal police arrested Kumar (54) of Rajanukunte on Doddaballapur Road charges of theft and recovered from him silver ingots and ornaments, worth Rs. 70,000. Using fake keys, Kumar entered a hotel room at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu and stole the silver ingots, the police said.

During 1982-84, the Bellary police had booked nearly 80 cases of gambling against Kumar and had externed him from the district.

Raided

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff on Thursday raided a house in Vyalikaval police station limits and a hotel in High Grounds police station limits and arrested 20 people on charges of gambling.

The police seized stake money of Rs. 4.20 lakh and 17 mobile phones worth Rs. 2.50 lakh from the arrested.
